Northern Expenditure Retirement Soundbite

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your weekend was pie-filled and celebratory in meaningful ways. This Monday we’re doing something a bit different. Steve over at Think Save Retire issued a challenge to record a one-minute retirement sound bite. He posted an example (so fun to hear voices!). I started recording mine and suddenly it became a full afternoon of recording all the kids being crazy. Laughter ensued. While I cut most of that out to stay close to one minute, the family is all present. Enjoy our voices and we’ll be back to normal on Wednesday with our November plan update!

  1. Wow! That’s one kick butt contribution to the soundbite challenge! Thanks for accepting it and making your audio clip fun to listen to – it was cool listening to your entire family. Well done!

    • MaggieBanks

Thanks. We clearly had a great time doing it. (And you should have heard the outtakes!) Thanks for the challenge. It was fun hearing your voice as well.

  2. Love this, Maggie. Thanks for letting us peek into your family life. It sounds like a blast over there 🙂

    • MaggieBanks

If we can say nothing else about our family life, we can definitely say things are a blast. 🙂

  3. Your kids are just so sweet! Thanks for sharing your soundbite–it sounds so professional. I could use some tips on how you put this together!

    • MaggieBanks

Ha ha ha. Thanks Claudia! We just used basic audacity editing. Nothing fancy, I assure you.

  4. Hahaha, awesome, love it!
Random side note: I had to google Spaghetti Carbonara because I didn’t know what it was. But now I can understand why Florin likes it; it sounds pretty delicious. 🙂

    • MaggieBanks

It is totally delicious… and a family recipe. I actually made up that chant when I was little and it has now passed on! 🙂

  5. OH my goodness, your kids are the cutest!! I’m going to have both of those songs (spaghetti carbonara & all I want for Christmas) stuck in my head tonight. 🙂 What a great soundbite your family threw together, it’s so fun to hear your voices!

    • MaggieBanks

Well I’ve won if you start singing my original spaghetti carbonara song! 🙂

  6. Very cool. I’ve never liked being recorded (voice or video), but now I kind of want to make one with our family!

  7. Fun, fun, fun. Great to hear the whole family. I think I’d have to trick my teenagers into doing this. 🙂

    • MaggieBanks

Ah yes. Teenagers… they’ve lost the thrill of listening to their own voices on the computer speakers. Or at least they have to pretend they have…

  8. This is just the best ever Maggie! You have the perfect voice for radio / recordings – if you ever launch or are interviewed for a podcast, sign me right up. (Do you listen to Jessica Moorhouse’s podcast? You have such a great story, you’d be perfect on it!)

It really is different listening to someone’s voice than just reading their writing – I think this is the kick in the pants I needed to make different kinds of content 🙂

Amazing job, and thank you for sharing this!

    • MaggieBanks

Thanks Des. I would love to put together a podcast. I think it would be awesome. Because I love talking to people. We’ll see if I ever do it. 🙂 (I was recently interviewed for Amy Robles’ podcast Think Enriched. I think that should air in the next couple of months… I’m sure I’ll link to it on the blog!)

  9. Way to get the family involved in this recording! Very cute to hear the kids. Have to agree with Des @ Half Banked, you’ve seriously got a great voice for radio! Possible consideration for a little side income?

    • MaggieBanks

Thanks! We had a great time. Hilariously, my sister works as a voice artist. 🙂

  10. Kim from Philadelphia

    Love it!!

  11. Awesome job! The kids were great.

  12. I’m going to be singing this to myself for the rest of the week, methinks:

    Spaghetti Car-bo-NAR-a

    Spaghetti Car-bo-NA-AH-ra

So awesome. 🙂 Glad I finally found my headphones so I could listen to this at last. Nice to hear more from you even if we can’t see your faces! 🙂

  13. MJ

I love your sound bite! Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best on your journey.
