Research Highlight: How to Start a New Habit

Ever find yourself with a bad habit like eating a cookie every day at lunch? Charles Duhigg did. And he set out on a research journey to break that habit in the book: The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business. Despite the 8 pounds he had gained, Duhigg found himself in the cafeteria every afternoon eating another cookie. He tried reminder notes, but promptly ignored them. He discovered that a habit is actually a three-step loop:

Liebster Award

The Liebster Award is a small blogger award that gets passed around to recognize smallish or newish blogs that deserve to be recognized. We are honored to have been nominated for the award by Try A Simple Life. I’ve read around and the rules are different with all nominations, it seems. July 2015 Plan Update

The Numbers:

Our investments are up to $62,800 and we now have $89,000 left on our mortgage. Again, we’re not upping the ante on paying that down until we finish the Alaska State Energy Rebate Program. So, that puts our grand total needed to reach early retirement at $526,200! I’m hoping to get that number down to at most $500,000 by the end of the year. This year’s PFD (estimated to be around $2000/person) should help get us there as well as our energy rebate check if we manage to get all the projects done by year’s end.
